Enola Holmes – Movie Review

Movie – Enola Holmes.

Director – Harry Bradbeer

Cast – Millie Bobby Brown, Henry Cavill, Sam Claflin, Helena Bonham Carter, Louis Partridge, Burn Gorman, Adeel Akhtar and Frances de la Tour etc.

Late last night I watched the movie “Enola Holmes” Starring Millie Bobby Brown (who you may remember from “Stranger Things” a sci fi TV series in which she played a mysterious girl called “Eleven”), in this movie she is Enola, younger sister of Sherlock (Henry Cavill) and Mycroft Holmes (Sam Claflin). The film is based on the book “The Case of the Missing Marquess“, the first book in the Enola Holmes Series of books by Nancy Springer.

I hadn’t actually heard about this film beforehand and so didn’t really know what to expect from it before seeing it, I went in with an open mind, a clean slate so to speak, so what was the outcome ?

Well first to set the scene, Enola is, as I said earlier, the younger sister of Sherlock Holmes and Mycroft Holmes whom she has been estranged from for many years since they left her in the hands of her mother Eudoria Holmes (Helena Bonham Carter), an unconventional mother for the times who hasn’t exactly prepared Enola for “polite society”, Enola has instead become a rebellious, wild, resourceful, clever and adventurous teen. Then Enola’s mother mysteriously disappears leaving her alone, her brothers return to “take care of her”, which means packing her off to finishing school, which of course Enola rebels against and runs away to start her adventures. These adventures include aiding a runaway young aristocrat, avoiding a murderous badguy, solving a mystery and various other hijinks set in period England. During these adventures Enola proves herself to be a very astute teenage sleuth and seems more than a match for famous detective and older brother Sherlock.

The film is an enjoyable, charming, amusing and at times exciting detective romp while Millie Bobby Brown as Enola gives an engaging, energetic and believable performance, I will be watching this one again. There is also, apparently, talk of a possible sequel, I for one will be looking forward to it quite eagerly.

Watch this movie, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

The Eight Verses of Training the Mind.

The Eight Verses of Training the Mind.

With the intention to attain

The ultimate, supreme goal

That surpasses even the wish-granting jewel,

May I constantly cherish all living beings.

Whenever I associate with others,

May I view myself as the lowest of all;

And with a perfect intention,

May I cherish others as supreme.

Examining my mental continuum throughout all my actions,

As soon as a delusion develops

Whereby I or others would act inappropriately,

May I firmly face it and avert it.

Whenever I see unfortunate beings

Oppressed by evil and violent suffering,

May I cherish them as if I had found

A rare and precious treasure.

Even if someone I have helped

And of whom I had great hopes

Nevertheless harms me without any reason,

May I see him as my holy Spiritual Guide.ย ย

When others out of jealousy

Harm me or insult me,

May I take defeat upon myself

And offer them the victory.

In short, may I directly and indirectly

Offer help and happiness to all my mothers,

And secretly take upon myself

All their harm and suffering.

Furthermore, through all these method practices,

Together with a mind undefiled by stains of conceptions of the eight extremes

And that seeโ€™s all phenomena as illusory,

May I be released from the bondage of mistaken appearance and conception.

All Caught Up…

This post is a catch up of sorts and also kind of a pseudo re-launch of this website / portfolio / blog of mine. I’ve been a little bit confused and a rather busy little bee of late, my own fault in both cases ๐Ÿ˜œ

OK so what have I been up to, well I had an idea of what I wanted to do with my online presences but was unsure of the best way to go about it for me. I had given myself a brief, I wanted to be able to get my photos and art out there on the web for plenty of people to see, but at the same time keep my personal friendly socialising kind of thing going and I wanted it to be fairly straight forward and not too complicated ๐Ÿ˜โ€ผ๏ธ

So like the proverbial bull in a china shop ๐Ÿฎ I started playing with all kinds of platforms designed for photography and art, I also created both a page and a group on Facebook connected to my personal profile. Of course I let this all get out of hand and found myself with sites / platforms coming out of my ears, it was far from simple, it was a mess and utterly confusing ๐Ÿคฏ

I needed to make things simple again, then I thought about having my own website, if I hosted this on WordPress.com then I could have a website that could host a portfolio for my photos and art, I could easily have a blog as well, I could simply share stuff to my fave social medias with ease and there would be space for expanding it in most anyway I wished later, thus this Website / Portfolio / Blog https://popspics.co.uk/ was born ๐Ÿฅณ Of course being me I was in too much of a rush and I published the site before I had it as I wanted it and before the portfolio section was up to date. So I’ve been busy sorting the site out to be just as I want and I’ve been populating the profile with albums (which up to this point I have mistakenly called portfolios, but new ones will be albums from this point forward). So this site is now ready, just how I want it, and I am ready to move forward with it from this point onward ๐Ÿ˜

As for the mass of social media sites and photo / art sites I’ve gathered, well I’m keeping them all โ“โ“ but I’m only really moving forward with my Twitter, Instagram, this site and Facebook (but just my FB profile, the page and group are deceased). The others are just in the background, they exist, I have them, I’m just not really using them much (or in some cases at all) I just feel I may, at some point in the future regret deleting them ๐Ÿค”โ€ผ๏ธโ‰๏ธ

So there we have it, all up to date, I have my favourite social medias, I have a platform for getting my photos and art out to folk, and it’s all pretty simple and straightforward, just as I had originally wanted before having an enormous brain fart.

If any of you have any suggestions or ideas for improving this site then please let me know in the comments, there may well be things I haven’t thought about, also if you spot any problems with the site or how it works also please inform me in the comments.

Pop’s Pic’s Website…

I’ve been a little bit absent from my various platforms (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) the last couple of days because I’ve been working on this website, well actually it’s a website, portfolio and blog and I’ve been getting it ready for the big wide world, hi big wide world ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’–

I think it’s pretty easy to get around, check out the menu toward the top of the page, the “HOME” button takes you to the home or landing page of the website, the “BLOG” button will take you to all the blog posts that I’ve published, and the “PORTFOLIO” button will take you to my Art and Photography portfolios (the portfolios are still being populated but there’s already a fair bit there to see). Following those buttons you will also see buttons to take you to my social media pages ๐Ÿ˜Š

I would be interested in any comments, feedback or thought’s you may have, thank you…

Anyway, thanks for visiting and pleaseย โ€œBe Well, Be Safe, Be Happyโ€ย  ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’–
